FREQUENTLY
ASKED QUESTIONS BY DENTISTS
Q.
Do I have to go on a list and have everyone in Spokane calling
me for an appointment?
A. No. You may choose not to be on the referral list given
to parents of ABCD children at enrollment. You may selectively
accept new ABCD children as your practice allows. If you find
you would like to be added to the list of dentists accepting new
ABCD referrals, just a call to the ABCD office is all that is
needed. The list is usually updated monthly.
Q. What
services do I have to provide to ABCD patients?
A. The same services you provide all your dental patients,
with family oral health education twice yearly added on. ABCD
was designed as a program of PREVENTION: to begin seeing children
when the first teeth appear. Covered services include:
1 comprehensive initial exam
Periodic exams every 6 months
3 fluoride varnish applications yearly
Restorations as needed
Q. Is the dentist the only one allowed to provide these services?
A. No. Washington State law allows dental assistants and licensed
dental hygienists to perform many oral health services for clients.
Q. What do we do if we have billing questions or problems?
A. Notify the ABCD office. They will make calls to Olympia
on your behalf, asking the DSHS/MAA billing specialists to investigate
the problems and return a call to your office biller with solutions.
DSHS/MAA staff can also come to your office to provide no-cost
assistance to you in your office. They can address billing concerns,
coding discrepancies, answer questions, and assure proper reimbursement
rates. They are committed to helping you maximize your billing
potential.
Q. Am I allowed to refer a patient to a pedodontist if I am unable
to perform required services?
A. Yes. It should be noted that the certification training
is fairly comprehensive in sedation techniques for children.
Q. If a patient has been to another office and for some reason
chooses to come to my office, can I take that child?
A. Yes. Parents have the right to choose another dentist
if they wish. You will receive the reimbursement rates as any
new provider would.
